BHARAT BHAVAN, BHOPAL


Bharat Bhavan is a multi-arts complex without parallel in Bhopal, India housing a museum of the arts, an art gallery, a workshop for fine arts, a repertory theater, indoor and outdoor auditoria, rehearsal room, and libraries of Indian poetry, classical and folk music providing interactive proximity to the verbal, the visual and the performing arts. The Bharat Bhavan, literally 'Abode or Home of India'. It was conceived and established as a cultural complex in the early 1980s. Since then, this museum-library, theatre and music centre has played a vital role in the contemporary art sense, attracting artists and performers from all over India and abroad.


Inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Shrimati Indira Gandhi on 13th February 1982, Bharat Bhavan is multi art centre set up to create an interactive proximity between the verbal, visual and performing arts. It provides space for contemporary expression, thought, quest and innovation. Bharat Bhavan seek to provide a creative and thought provoking milieu to those who wish to contribute something new and meaningful, in contemporary scene in the fine arts, literature, theatre, cinema, dance and music. It houses some of the best and most lasting that is being created in our towns, villages and forests.


Bharat Bhavan consists of the following units -

·        Roopankar (Museum of fine arts)
·        Rangmandal (A repertory) 
·        Vagarth (A centre of Indian poetry)
·        Anhad (A library of classical and folk music)
·        Ashram (A residence for guest artists).



The Bhavan regularly organizes special exhibitions, programmers and 'happenings' that may interest the visitor. This wonderful combination of architecture as well as cultural extravaganza is a must see for every visitor.

RADIO TAXI @ BHOPAL


In order to promote tourism in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Tourism considers it necessary to start radio taxi service in the city. For this purpose, it wishes to engage an agency for operating radio taxies on the stipulated terms and conditions. A taxi or cab is a type of transportation by car for single passengers or small groups that will fit in a car. Radio Taxis are started on 31 March 2010 at Bhopal. Taxis have a driver who gets you to the location of your choice. There are special pick up and drop off locations for cabs, especially at airports, train stations, or places of public interest. Many cities have cabs with common characteristics such as color or make of car so that the taxi can be recognized by passengers.


GOHAR MAHAL @ BHOPAL


Gohar Mahal is one of the beautiful palaces in Bhopal. Constructed in the year 1820,, on the banks of the Upper Lake, the Gohar Mahal is a beautiful palace built by the first female ruler of Bhopal – Gohar Begum. Gohar Mahal is an architectural marvel, which presents a perfect blend of Hindu and Mughal Architecture. The palace is an architectural wonder presenting the blend of Hindu Mughal style of architecture. The arcades of the palace hold majestic look and glory. Gohar Mahal is on the verge of renovation to showcase the grandeur to the world again.


FISH AQUARIUM, BHOPAL



Fish Aquarium is situated at Bhopal, near the Raj-Bhavan and old assembly hall. Established in May 31, 1977 and it covers an area of about one hectare and is built in fish like structure. In the lower section are 26 big aquariums. Here is kept collection of fishes brought from state and national lakes, rivers and ponds. This two floors structure has forty glass aquariums and 26 big aquariums.


FISH AQUARIUM of Bhopal hosts 66 varieties of fishes including ornamental and fresh water types.It houses various species of fish, including golden shark, paradise blue, rosy barb, king kobra, golden plata, golden gormi, tiger barb, black moor, king zebra, rohu, katla, mirgal, sawal and bam fish.

GHODA PACHAD DAM, BHOPAL


Ghoda Pachad Dam is 15km from Bhopal.


KERWA DAM, BHOPAL


This is a scenic dam located just 15 km from bhopal off Kotra Sultanabad. Kerwa dam is an excellent spot to enjoy a nice picnic. The place is best visited in the rains as the water level is low in summers.


HATHIKHEDA DAM, BHOPAL


Hathikheda Dam is about 19 km from Bhopal railway station. Hathaikheda is a beautiful place full with river water, trees of mango, date and scenic fields having wheat, soyabean, sugar cane crops. This place becomes charming especially in the rainy season. One can visit Hathaikheda via Phanda which is off Bhopal-Indore highway.


KOLAR DAM, BHOPAL


Kolar Dam, a major masonry dam, is located about 35 km away from Bhopal, near Lawakhari village in Sehore District.


Constructed across the Kolar River, a tributary of Narmada on the right bank, the dam is about 45 m high. The maximum storage capacity is 270 M cm. The dam serves the irrigation purpose of Bhopal city and the surrounding areas. The nearest airport is Bhopal Airport Sehore Railway Station serves Lawakhari. Kolar is the smallest urban agglomeration of Bhopal consisting of Old Municipal Towns of kolar, Bhopal. 

BHADBHADA DAM, BHOPAL


The Bhadbhada dam (Hindi: भदभदा बांध) is a set of 11 sluice gates at the south-east corner of Upper lake in Bhopal. It was constructed in 1965.  And the capacity of the Bhadbhada dam is 117.05 million m. The gates are used to control the outflow of water from the lake to Kaliasote River, and are usually opened only when the city receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon season.


The free flow of water in Kalia Sot could prove fatal for the upper lake. So, another dam was built at Bhadbhada that allowed water into the Kalia Sot only when the Upper Lake would overflow in the monsoons.

KALIASOT DAM, BHOPAL


Kaliasot Dam is the most significant of the works and vision of Raja Bhoj was his work for water conservation, as early as eleventh century that named as Kaliasot Dam. The great Bhoj clearly understood the importance of water in the survival, settlement and development of human society. Raja Bhoj of India is yet to get the credit of the first visionary in known history for creating the first man made large reservoir. The great Bhoj dam lasted more than 400 years up to the fifteenth century. It changed the entire eco system of the central India. Forests and wild life developed and the place became a haven for nature and beauty.

It is after Kalia Gond that this river is called Kalia Sot today. A dam on the river was drawn and known as the Kalia Sot dam, and is one of the main sources of water supply to Bhopal city.
