THE STATE ARCHAEOLIGICAL MUSEUM, BHOPAL

The State Archaeological Museum of Madhya Pradesh was earlier known as Bhopal Museum. It was during the reign of Nawab Shah Jehan Begum (1868-1901) that a serious effort was made to collect rare objects for the Museum. It was inaugurated in November 2005 and is housed in a new majestic building. It is located near the Museum of Man and the Regional Science Centre. The Archaeological Museum in Bhopal houses a splendid collection of sculptures brought from various parts of the state. 



The State Museum, Bhopal is the treasure house of antiquities such as coins, excavated artifacts like terracotta articles, sculpture, and paintings of the most significant historical sites around the region. The State Museum of Bhopal exhibits a splendid collection of the antiques retrieved from various excavated sites of Madhya Pradesh. The State Museum, Bhopal is devoted to archeology. The State Museum of Bhopal also exhibits the samples of the beautiful carvings of Khajuraho's romantic couples. Apart from this the State Museum at Bhopal harbors 87 Jain bronzes that are retrieved from Dhar, an excavated site of Madhya Pradesh whose origination dated back to the Paramara Dynasty of 12th century.

The paintings belonging to different period, the handicrafts of the tribal’s, the musical instruments, the figurines and other important artifacts having historical significance are displayed in different departments of the Bhopal State Museum. The various archaeological findings exhibited in the State Museum at Bhopal illustrated the rich cultural history of Madhya Pradesh.

INDIRA GANDHI RASHTRIYA MANAV SANGRAHLAYA, BHOPAL

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, an autonomous organization of Government of India. The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya is involved in generating a new museum movement in India, with open, freewheeling, flexible plan, to demonstrate the simultaneous validity of human cultures and the plurality of alternative for human articulation. A nucleus of a 'National Museum of Man' began functioning from New Delhi from 21st March, 1977 as part of the Anthropological Survey of India.



The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya is spearheading an interactive Museum Movement in India, to celebrate the ‘simultaneous validity’ of various valuable cultural patterns evolved over thousands of years. The Organization is working for national integration, and promotes research and training and inter-institutional networking for Salvage and revitalization of vanishing but valuable cultural traditions and highlights the unity and diversity; and organizes exhibitions to present an integrated story of biological evolutions and variations. The IGRMS, through its exhibitions and salvage activities, demonstrates the aesthetic qualities of India’s traditional life styles; local knowledge and mores cherished for thousands of years, and caution the people against unprecedented destruction of ecology, environment, local values, customs etc.

BIRLA MUSEUM, BHOPAL, MADHYA PRADESH

Birla Museum, Bhopal is an archaeological museum established in 1971 and is one of its kinds among the various museums of Bhopal. The rich culture and heritage and its various aspects get manifested in the Birla Museum in Bhopal which occupies a significant place among the monuments and museums in Bhopal. Stone sculptures, terracottas, manuscripts and paintings are displayed in this museum. 

The various objects that are exhibited in the museum date from the primitive period onwards. There are primitive tools and implements that were used during the Paleolithic and Neolithic period which are also on display. A marvelous scale model of the Bhimbetka rock shelter with its ancient murals is surely going to astound the onlookers with its divine appeal. The tourists interested in archaeology can also observe the stone sculptures that date from the 7th to 13th century collected from the various archaeological sites. Coins and manuscripts and Terracotta belonging to 2nd century BC to the 6th century AD are also exhibited.

REGIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE, BHOPAL

The Regional Science Center Bhopal was opened on 12th January 1995 by the then president of India late Shankar Dayal Sharma. This center is one of the 27 constituent units of National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) which is  an autonomous scientific organization under the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, engaged in popularizing Science and Technology amongst students in particular and the masses in general, through a wide range of activities and interactive programmers.

The Science Center is open to public on all days including Sundays and public holidays from 10.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. The Center is closed on Holi & Diwali.
